One of my favorite things to do to relax and unwind after a long day is to take a herbal bath! I have always loved a long soak in a hot aromatic bath. It is an immediate way for many people to de-stress. The warm water is like a cozy blanket surrounding and soothing the body. Herbal baths help to alleviate many issues including muscle spasms, aches & pains, tension, stress, and they help promote a good night’s rest. Aromatherapy bath blends are an easy way to enhance the therapeutic benefits of a bath.

Essential oils are the distilled or expressed product of volatile components that are originally synthesized by a plant for specific functions. These volatile oils in nature will normally attract or deter insects or animals from it. There are so many essential oils and they all have multiple uses and incredible aromas. It is very easy and fun to create new aromatherapy bath blends! Simply pick the essential oils you enjoy and add them in with or without a base oil after the bathtub has been filled. Doing a little research about the benefits of specific essential oils can help you decide which essential oil is right.

This time for my aromatherapy bath blend, I chose to add grapeseed oil and rosehip seed oil for the base oils. Grapeseed oil is soothing and does not leave a greasy feel. Rosehip seed oil is extremely high in essential fatty acids (over 70% of the rosehip seed is fatty acid), it is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, especially Vitamin C, Vitamin A (retinol), and it contains linoleic and linolenic acids which all have amazing benefits for skin and hair health!

I added essential oils of sandalwood, rose, and lavender. My skin has been a bit dry; the combination of grapeseed oil along with the rosehip seed oil was both incredibly soothing and did not leave my skin greasy. Instead, my skin felt soft and silky. The essential oil blend was simply intoxicating, grounding, and very relaxing. The aroma lingered on my skin for a few hours after I had gotten out of the bath.

Rose is an amazing essential oil with many benefits such as supporting a healthy immune system, easing aches & pains, promoting healthy radiant skin, and it is a wonderful antidepressant. Sandalwood essential oil has been used for centuries and is well known for its calming, grounding, and aphrodisiac properties. Lavender essential oil encourages relaxation, eases aches & pains, and melts away stress and anxiety after a long day.

Overall, this might be one of my favorite bath blends I have ever created! The aroma was incredible, and it completely removed the stress and tension I was experiencing. The two base oils left my skin silky smooth and radiant without having a slimy or greasy feel. I guess letting my instincts take over was a good idea after all! Sometimes it’s hard to realize what the body needs to help whatever is going on. By listening to our instincts we can encourage our inner voice and help ourselves heal our mind body and spirit.
